Dahana Asked:
s it the size of the tire that makes the bike a middle weight? I have a couple Balloon tire bikes. A 1950 26'' Hornet and a 1951 24'' DX. I was looking at another 24'' and they refered to it as a middle weight? And they made Reference to the fact that it had skinnier tires? Is tires what makes the difference? Maybe I just dont understand?
Reply:
Yes, heavyweight (balloon) and middleweight bikes refer to the size of the tire.
Balloon tires are 2.125" (2 1/8") wide or wider. Middleweight tires are 1.75" (1 3/4") or narrower. Lightweights are 1.375" (1 3/8") and narrower.
There are VERY few balloon tired 24" wheeled bikes. Shelby is one brand that comes to mind, and JCHiggins had one in the early 50s.

Gerik Asked:
wanting to attach this 3 speed hub with 28 spokes i can only find 36 or 40 spokes on 24 inch wheel or how can i make what i have fit by tapping them in but how mathmatically
Reply:
28 spoke rims may exist in the size you want, you just have to look hard to find them. Most stores have catalogues from several suppliers that they deal with, these suppliers carry various makes and models of rims along with selections of the various length spokes needed to build a complete wheel
